Lake Tana, Monastaries
There were a lot of birds about but this was not a birding trip.
Our destination was two ancient monastaries further down the lake. It was a quiet spot enclosed by coffee plantations. The monastaries were circular with thatched roofs. There was a room in the center which was closed to tourists. The outside walls were painted with scenes from the bible. All very interesting and a pleasant quiet place to walk, but far from mind blowing. Now if they had shown us the Ark of the Covenent, which is supposedly hidden somewhere around the lake, it would be a different story.
On the way back to the boat we had some traditional coffee to reenergize ourselves.
Boris This is the most comprehensive view of the country since the Portugese were here in the 1700s
